Leave the bandage or wrap on for the amount of time your artist instructed — typically 2–4 hours, sometimes longer if it’s a Saniderm-style wrap.
When it’s time, wash your hands first, then gently remove the bandage.
Wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and a small amount of Dial Gold antibacterial soap using only your fingertips (no washcloths, no scrubbing).
Rinse thoroughly, then pat dry gently with a clean paper towel or let it air dry — don’t rub.
Once it’s fully dry, apply a very thin layer of Aquaphor (pea-sized amount goes a long way). Massage it in until it looks lightly shiny, not greasy.
---
π Days 2–4
Wash the tattoo 2–3 times daily with Dial Gold and lukewarm water.
Pat dry gently.
Continue applying a thin layer of Aquaphor after each wash or when the skin feels tight or dry.
Don’t over-apply — too much Aquaphor can suffocate the tattoo and slow healing.
---
π Days 4–7
Your tattoo will start to flake and peel like a sunburn — this is normal.
Switch from Aquaphor to a fragrance-free lotion (like Lubriderm, Aveeno, or Eucerin) once the tattoo begins peeling.
Keep washing it gently once or twice a day, and moisturize as needed to prevent itching or cracking.
---
π« What to Avoid
No soaking (baths, pools, hot tubs, lakes) for 2–3 weeks.
No direct sunlight or tanning until fully healed.
Don’t pick or scratch flakes or scabs — let them fall off naturally.
Avoid tight clothing that rubs on the tattoo.

Signs of Healthy Healing
Mild redness and tenderness for a few days.
Light flaking and mild itch around days 3–7.
Smooth, slightly shiny skin around week 2.
If it becomes very red, swollen, painful, or oozes colored fluid, contact your artist or a doctor — it could be irritated or infected.
